The 3 key components of auto insurance.

I like to break down auto insurance into three (3) key parts or components.

1.  Liability-this is the part of insurance required by state law.  It protects other drivers for bodily injury and property damage you may cause to them.  In short, it's the part that Protects Others.

2.  Physical damage- this is the part that includes comprehensive and collision coverage.  Or more commonly stated today Collision and Other than Collision coverage.  Those coverage's are what Protects Your Car.

3.  UM/UIM - this is the part that protects you if you are injured in an accident cause by someone else who has no insurance or not enough insurance to cover your bills.  In short, it Protects You.

So there you have it, the part that Protects Others, the part that Protects your Car and the part that Protects You.

All 3 parts are equally important to consider when you are purchasing auto insurance.  We recommend a minimum coverage of $100/$300/$100 for part 1 and $100/$300 for part 3.  Part 2 you can choose the deductibles you are comfortable paying if something happens to your car.
