COVERAGE. When purchasing insurance, consumers must consider what coverage is right for them. Are the limits of liability high enough to protect you and your assets? Have you chosen the correct deductibles? Do you want glass coverage, towing and rental car? Remember after the insurance policy max’s out it won’t pay any more, so $15,000 for bodily injury may not be enough to protect you. ($15,000 is state minimum required to drive.)
COMPANY. Insurance companies come and go. When purchasing insurance, consumers should consider the company underwriting the insurance. How long have they been in business and what is their credit rating are just a few of the questions that should be considered.
CUSTOMER SERVICE. When buying insurance consider the kind of customer service you will receive. It can be very frustrating for consumers to not be able to reach their agent or their insurance company when they need help. If you are left with nothing else but a 1-800 number to call and the person on the other end is in another state, this may not be the right insurance company for you.
CLAIMS. We all purchase insurance hoping we won’t have to file a claim, but when we do file a claim, it is important to know how your carrier will handle the claim. Will you receive a fair settlement, will it be timely, will the work be guaranteed and how will the claim affect your rate should all be questions consumers consider.
COST. “Cost is only an issue in the absence of value.” You may not want the cheapest insurance around. If you consider carefully all the issues above, cost should become less important as you consider, “you get what you pay for.” Of course you don’t want to pay more than you need too so you should use a good agent to help you consider your options.
