April is distracted driver awareness month

All of us get tempted to use our cell phones while driving.  This month is Distracted Driver Awareness month.  Over 3000 people died in cell phone related accidents in 2012.  These deaths are totally preventable.  The average time a driver takes his or her eyes off the road to read / write a text is 4.6 seconds.  At 55 mph in 4.6 seconds, your car has traveled the length of a football field, 100 yards.  I'll bet not to many of us would willingly be blind folded for 4.6 seconds while traveling at a speed of 55 mph, and yet, that is essentially what we are doing when we use our cell phones to text while we are driving.  I know life is busy and it is nice to multitask but while driving, we should not be texting at the same time.  Make it a goal right now in your life that you will not text and drive.  Your loved ones want you to make it home tonight.
